If you don't already know, Bella Madre Music Festival is in full swing this weekend at Geneva,MN in the spectacular Harmony Park. Come to bask in the sun and soak up the music at this great event. Twin Cities artists such as The Histronic, Heiruspecs,Pert Near Sandstone and Heatbox will be performing this weekend. I have just gotten familiar with Heatbox at a show in the Cabooze last week and he is definitely an entertaining act to see. Of Course as usual, The Histronic will be bringing down the house with some funky ass grooves that you can shake to. EOTO, who are made up of two members from the String Cheese incident will be putting on a special silent disco on Thursday Night. A fresh band that is just fine tuning there craft are hopefully going to start playing around the Twin Cities. This band is called Bob Manning and the Real Deal. My fellow friend,DJ Sashwat, is one of the three DJ'S tonight playing on 1414 Nicollet Avenue in Downtown Minneapolis, at a wonderful little place called Market BBQ.DJ Sashwat always gets the groove going, so if you want to shake your ass tonight be there at 10pm. This will be DJ Sashwat's last show in the Twin Cities, we will miss him.

Picture this..... your coming into practice with your band, you start off by naming the new gigs that got added and making sure everybody can make it. You go over what songs need fine tuning and what you can do to make it awesome. Your band mates are on the same level as you are,on where you want to take this group and agree on the dedication involved to make this work. Everybody is asked if there is any new material they created that they want to share, so you can collaborate on making another new song.

So how many musicians out there feel confident and happy in the groups that they are in. Do you feel unsatisfied? Maybe you just not into the type of music that is being created. Your just not feeling it. I feel that musicians need to connect more with other local musicians. I know that it is difficult to find people that have the same level of dedication as you, that want to play the same type of music as you, and has the same available schedule as you. Don't even get started with matching personalities, because if you wouldn't get along as friends how can you play music together. There is a lot of different factors coming into creating a band. I thought of an idea for players to have a place to go where they can search for what musicians they are looking for. Since I live in the Twin cities it would basically be a local search engine on the internet where musicians have a profile. You would keep up with your availability, if your in a band and want to add another or want to start one. Also if you are currently in a band and just want to play with someone for a change of pace but don't want anything beyond jamming. Imagine being able to write in your availability, influences,dedication level and just getting a list of musicians,with images if wanted, that you can contact. This, I think would help to create more harmonious music. Connection is the key, because if you can't talk the talk ,you can't walk the walk.

Musicians that live in the Twin Cities , how do you do it? Today i read a pretty interesting craigslist ad about local musicians in the cities being treated with no respect and ridiculously under paid. The musician writing in his thoughts used the Whiskey Junction as an example. He talked about the time and effort venues don't see and don't appreciate. Venues get upset if the band doesn't bring in a crown when it is not the sole responsibility of the musicians. The place of business should help promote there bar/restaurant also and don't expect the acts to do all the work themselves.

One example was given at this particular place where a person called The Whiskey Junction to ask what live music was going to be playing that night and the employee responded "I don't know what the band name is". Are you kidding me, no effort at all to find out either. Bars/venues have to work together to achieve there ultimate goal, which is making money and getting the word out, that there is talent in the twin cities along with cool places to hang out in. So let's ask this, if you want live entertainment for your guests, pay them what they deserve. Because the performance that you see the night they play at your establishment is just the tip of the iceberg, most of the practicing,dedication and set-up of the whole event is done when you don't see it.So if you want something your guests can listen to, get a juke box. If you want something your guests can listen, feel and experience, hire local music. MUSICIANS AND VENUES UNITE!
